Jeff Breitbach
Jeff Breitbach began his career with Dubuque Fire
Department on 5/1/2003 as a firefighter/paramedic. He was
promoted to Medical Officer 8/30/2005 and became a Fire
Equipment Operator 3/24/2006. Jeff’s primary duties are driving
and operating Engine 505, Shift 1. He is often the initial
paramedic on scene for his district. In the last transition
period Jeff successfully transitioned from Iowa-Paramedic to
Paramedic. Jeff also operates his own business, Breitbach
Landscaping.
Jeff is one of the humblest and quietest EMS providers you
will ever meet. It came as no surprise when we recently found
out he was going above and beyond as an EMS provider.
A Dubuque resident stopped at the City Clerk’s Office to
commend Fire Equipment Operator Jeff Breitbach for his help and
caring for his welfare.
The resident, who is disabled and confined to a wheelchair,
reported that Jeff has helped him by building an accessible
ramp, installing shelving and purchasing a vacuum. He also
commended the Fire Department for their help with other issues
and thought someone should know. The resident was considering
coming to a Council meeting to express his gratitude.
When investigated further, this is what his Assistant Chief
found out. “Jeff being Jeff stopped back the next day and poured
a rough ramp for the motorized wheel chair, built a 'rough'
shelfing and desk. All on his own time and dime.”
Jeff had only responded to this resident one time. This truly
shows what kind of provider Jeff is.
