2020/2021 VOLUNTEER EMS SERVICE
Humboldt County Memorial Hospital
Ambulance Service
Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Ambulance Service is deserving
of the Iowa EMS Association Volunteer Service of the Year award.
At our newspaper, we get to observe our ambulance service in
action whether it be at accident scenes, dire calls, events at
county fair, football games and other high school sporting
events, safety day presentations for students and safety drills.
Our EMTs are well rained, courteous, and professional.
Just last week, our HCMH Ambulance Service took part in a Red
Shirt Drill at the Humboldt Family Aquatic Center. The victim
suffered a neck injury . The ambulance personnel engaged with
the lifeguards adn pool staff to help them learn the proper
techniques in dealing with such an injury. There was dialogue
between the ambulance personnel and lifeguards, which made it a
learning experience.
Just recently the HCMH Ambulance Service was on hand for a
training burn in the small Humboldt County Community of Bode,
where an old wooden elevator structure was being burned. It was
a hot and humid Saturday morning. They took care of the
firefighters who became dehydrated and also made the rounds
handing out water and cooling towels . They were also on hand
for a fire the next week at a major manufacturing plant in
Humboldt on another very hot day.
Our ambulance director, Mike Sexe, and his staff have a great
relationship with the new media. They recognize we all have our
jobs to do.
We recognize our EMTs in the newspaper in May during EMS Week.
Were so glad to be able to honor our local heroes, who help our
community and county in so many ways.
