Duties
Respond to fire alarms. Operate fire department vehicles under adverse conditions during all hours of the day or night. Lay hose line, direct water streams, place ladders, ventilate buildings, perform rescue activities & cleaning operations; perform at high levels of physical & mental stress for extended periods of time without physical or mental compromise due to ingestion of prescription drugs. Perform all emergency work requirements promptly in atmospheres of temperature extremes, total darkness, & confined spaces which allow minimum movement & while wearing self-contained breathing apparatus. Promptly carry, raise & climb ladders, perform all related duties from the full height of each ladder. Operate equipment while maintaining balance on sloped roofs. Enter buildings & other areas under circumstances of great threat to personal health & welfare. Participate in emergency response drills & routine training sessions. Perform all emergency work requirements promptly in case of illness, injury & related situations including death; operate as an Iowa EMT-PM. Prepare accurate reports, maintain files & record keeping; prepare surveys & other documents upon request or direction.

To be Eligible to Test
Current Iowa EMT–PM or National Registry Paramedic certification. If this level of certification has not yet been obtained candidate must be at or above the EMT-Basic Level and participating in coursework that will lead to one of these certifications. Applicants must state current certification and class information (including start and ending dates) in their application. Muscatine will be utilizing the CPAT testing process for the physical agility test. Important information regarding this is available on the linked website. CPAT certification from a consortium city taken less than 12 months from our testing date will be accepted upon verification from the testing entity. Description
The Dakota Valley Emergency Services District (District) is currently looking to fill one full time Lead Paramedic position as well as additional full and part time paramedic positions. The Lead Paramedic will work under the direction of the NSCFD Fire Chief and will be responsible for supervising all other EMS personnel. The paramedics will work under the direction of the Lead Paramedic or the North Sioux City Fire Chief if the Lead Paramedic is not available. Employees will provide a high level of customer service to all patients under their care during medical treatment and transportation to appropriate hospitals. Employees will work within the scope of practice for their license. Employees must have a general knowledge of standard EMS equipment and ambulance maintenance. They must be proficient with computer software and reporting procedures. Employees will also perform non-emergency duties as assigned by the Lead Paramedic or the NSCFD Fire Chief. May work 24-hour, 12-hour, 8-hour, or other assigned shifts as required.

Duties

  • Provides emergency medical treatment and transport within designated scope of practice, State law, and direction from our Medical Director.
  • Document all EMS calls using approved software. Documentation must include all treatment and actions taken by the EMS provider as well as all supplies consumed during the call.
  • Complies with all HIPPA standards and patient confidentiality rules.
  • Provides EMS standby at fire calls, and other events as assigned.
  • Follow District and NSCFD procedures.
  • Responsible for tracking inventory and supplies used while on shift.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and readiness of the ambulance and EMS equipment.
  • Responsible for station duties as assigned.
  • Lead Paramedic will ensure the Fire Chief is made aware of any problems with equipment, vehicles, calls, or personnel issues.
  • Paramedics will ensure Lead Paramedic or the NSCFD Fire Chief is made aware of any problems with equipment, vehicles, calls, or personnel.
  • Maintenance of ambulance, equipment, and station.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Lead Paramedic Specific Duties

  • Supervising EMS Personnel.
  • Scheduling of EMS personnel.
  • Assisting in hiring EMS personnel.
  • Reviewing, auditing, and evaluating EMS calls and associated reports. (Quality Assurance).
  • Maintain and track inventory of all EMS supplies, placing orders when necessary.
  • Maintain and track personnel certification expiration dates and continuing education hours.
  • Oversee the billing of patients.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief and the District.

Qualifications
Must be able to read, speak, legibly write and comprehend the English language without restriction. Must show knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patters in each step of the care process. Must possess the ability to handle confidential information and follow all HIPPA and state laws regarding confidentiality. Applicant should have the ability to take initiative, problem solve, and show sound judgement and decision-making abilities. Must possess the ability to drive safely in all road and weather conditions with a current driver’s license that is valid in all 50 states without being on any type of high risk automobile insurance, SR-22, etc. Applicants should have the ability to assist with training other EMS personnel at the department. Must have a high degree of personal integrity. Must have the ability to work efficiently and interact in a constructive and professional manner with other employees, public safety personnel, medical staff and other emergency medical service members. Must have the ability to interact effectively and professionally with patients, customers, clients, family members, bystanders and the general public in such a manner as to reflect credibly on the Dakota Valley Emergency Services District or the North Sioux City Fire Department. Must demonstrate a level of skill and ability consistent with the provision of high quality patient care. Physical requirements: Ability to perform duties required of a paramedic including but not limited to: lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of patients and equipment. Must have the ability to walk up and down stairs without difficulty and the ability to walk potentially a quarter of a mile without difficulty. Work Environment: Exposure to various weather conditions. These may include: extreme heat/cold, wet and or humid conditions, snow, ice, etc. Use of protective eye wear, footwear, gloves, facemask, and other personal protective equipment. Education
A high school diploma and graduation from an educational program for Paramedic.

Licensure
Must hold a current State of South Dakota paramedic license (or obtain one prior to starting employment), Nationally Registered Paramedic (ETMP), Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support, Advanced Medical Life support (preferred), and an instructors certificate (preferred).

Experience
5 years of experience as a paramedic is preferred for the Lead Paramedic and 2-3 years for the other paramedics.

HCHC EMS is a hospital-based ALS service, which in conjunction with a strong network of volunteer first responders, provides high-quality emergency medical services to all of Henry County. Description
Medivac Ambulance has openings for Paramedics in their Atlantic site. Medivac is a progressive private ambulance service that provides both 911 and inter facility transportation from the Critical Access Hospital to the tertiary care facilities in the Omaha/Council Bluffs and the Des Moines areas.

Medivac Ambulance was one of the first services to implement TXA in their protocols and we have an active, progressive medical director; the medical director is open to new ideas and new roles for the EMS provider.

Wages start at $16.00/hour but are commensurate with experience. Benefits include vacation, sick pay, health insurance, personal days & 401(k). Continuing education is provided and outside classes are considered for reimbursement.

  • Lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.
  • Professionally communicate with receiving Emergency Departments and Dispatchers.
  • Regular attendance consistent with scheduled hours. Willing to work overtime as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, and in accordance with Paramedic Job Description.
