Primary Purpose of Position
The Director is
responsible for the day-to-day operations and administration of the Jefferson
County Ambulance Service and supports countywide first responder service and the
County Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Association. Plans, organizes,
coordinates and evaluates functioning of ambulance services; conducts training
and staff supervision in order to ensure delivery of consistent high-quality
care throughout the county. Represents the department and county at local,
regional and state meetings.

Administrative
-
Responsible to comply with all state and
federal rules and regulations pertaining to applicable ambulance and EMS
services, and complies with all regulations of the Iowa Department of Health
and Human Services - Bureau of Emergency & Trauma Services.

Prepares and manages the budget; prepares and
presents regular reports to the Board of Supervisors.

Plans for future equipment and personnel
needs.
-
Communicates timely, accurate information to
the Board of Supervisors, Medical Director, EMS and State of Iowa.
-
Purchases equipment, materials and supplies
in accordance with the budget and cost effectiveness; determines long range
capital and equipment needs; prepares bid specification; reviews bids and
purchases equipment in consultation with the Board of Supervisors.

Effectively works with County, City and
Hospital officials, patients, staff and the public.
-
Promptly handles complaints and/or concerns
and communicates these to the Board of Supervisors immediately.
Operations
-
Develops written protocols, policies and
procedures; organizes, coordinates and evaluates all functions of the
ambulance services.

Responsible for patient care, staffing,
program planning, maintenance of vehicles, equipment and facilities.

Ensures emergency vehicles and equipment are
maintained and repaired including rig maintenance checks, cot maintenance,
medication checks and ordering supplies in a timely fashion.

Ensures safety and efficiency in the
workplace; submits policies to the state for approval.

Ensures schedule needs are met.
-
Ensures ambulance building and grounds are
cleaned and maintained.

Handles employee discipline issues according
to employee handbook.
Crew Members

Encourages input from all crew members.

Provides leadership, support and assistance
with any concerns regarding ambulance services.

Communicates effective performance
measurements for each crew member.

Coordinates training for new staff. Conducts
or assists with the training as necessary.

Addresses personnel issues in a timely and
professional manner.
Billing & Accounts Payable
-
Manages the Ambulance department’s payables,
accounts receivable and ambulance billing system.

Available to the community for billing
questions.
Required Knowledge, Abilities &
Skills

and regulations pertaining to ambulance and EMS delivery.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, prefer Business,
Healthcare Administration or related area/experience

National Registry Paramedic Certification;
State of Iowa Paramedic

Minimum two years field experience as a
Paramedic

Minimum 5 years of progressive EMS management
experience and responsibility

BLS, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS Certifications

Knowledge of Federal, State and Local
statutes as they pertain to the delivery of prehospital emergency care
Minimum Training and Experience
Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Two to four years supervisory or management experience preferred (in EMS),
including experience with employee relations, conflict resolution and critical
thinking skills. Current Iowa Paramedic License and 4+ years active experience
working in paramedics. Prior experience working with rural ambulance service
operations. Valid Iowa driver’s license or equivalent and proof of insurance.

Job Summary
Under the general direction of the EMS Division Chief provides a high

Description
The City of Toledo is seeking to fill part-time AEMT/Paramedic positions. Our
ambulance service provides emergent and non-emergent services to Toledo and the
surrounding area with a combination of paid and volunteer staffing. Ambulances
are equipped with the latest state of the art equipment including: CPAP/transport
ventilators, LifePak15 Monitors, LUCAS devices and power load Stryker cots.
Job Summary
The positions will have varying hours due to the dynamic nature of EMS. The
positions are under the general direction of the EMS Director but the ideal
candidate must possess the ability to function independently in the field while
providing a high standard of patient care in both the emergent and non-emergent
setting. The ability to interact in a professional manner with patients, other
staff members and the general public is a must. Other duties to include:
vehicle/equipment checks, restocking, and other light station activities.
Special Requirements
Current Advanced EMT or EMT-Paramedic certification in the State of Iowa;
current BLS certification and valid Iowa driver’s license. ACLS provider
certifications required of Paramedic Applicants. A safe driving record and
insurable by the city. Mandatory Reporter training also required. Additional
certifications and trainings, although not required, are a plus.
Education and experience requirements
High school graduate or equivalent. Knowledge of EMS and the operations of
an advanced ambulance service. Knowledge of level specific pre-hospital medical
care practices. Knowledge of county and city roads, landmarks, general use of
maps, and route planning. Knowledge of Iowa traffic laws and regulations.

Job Description
Under general direction, provides basic and advanced emergency medical care for
assessment/evaluation, treatment, stabilization, and transport of the ill and
injured for 911 response, inter-facility transfers, event medical support, and
disasters. Provides security, emergency/code response, and patient care

responsibilities support patient centered care. Mary Greeley EMS has been
providing EMS coverage to the citizens of Ames and Story County since 1973 and

county in Iowa. MGMC EMS has a diverse call volume including >6,500 calls
annually including 911, critical care transports, event medicine, community
paramedicine, and in-hospital code response.
Description
Individual will be responsible for providing Paramedic level care in accordance
with the ambulance service protocols and under the direction of the medical
control physician or physician designee; transporting patients to their
respective destination; completing and submitting patient care reports, billing
sheets, and other documentation; and responding to calls as directed.
Special Requirements
Current paramedic certification in the State of Iowa and current PALS, ACLS and
BCLS provider certifications; and completion of mandatory reporter training.

Veterans Memorial Hospital Ambulance Service currently has one full-time
Paramedic position available, VMH EMS Paramedics are based in the Emergency
Department, providing pre-hospital 911 response to a large service area,
Paramedic Intercepts with outlying services, and Inter-facility transports. Our
Paramedics provide support facility-wide including respiratory therapy duties
and assistance on the medical floor. VMH EMS responds to approximately 1,000
requests for service annually. Qualifications include current Iowa Paramedic
licensure and BLS or EMT/AEMT licensure with proof of enrollment in a paramedic
program, and a valid driver’s license. Additional training may be required upon
hire and will be provided by our team of clinical educators. Veterans Memorial
