2018 VOLUNTEER EMS SERVICE
Stanwood EMS Service
Like many small Iowa towns, Stanwood (pop. 600) was running out
of EMS volunteers and with only 3 EMTs on the service, the
service was forced to discontinue EMS service in January 1915.
By June, residents approached the EMS Board of Directors
requesting help and desperately worked a plan to get some
volunteers. By August, 11 people took the EMT course. Within one
year Stanwood EMS was re-born (July 2016); only due to this
town's commitment and these EMT's willing to do "what it took"!
